The first time I attended a Christian Science church...
The first time I attended a Christian Science church service I was so impressed by the simplicity and beauty of the service that the following Wednesday I attended the evening testimony meeting. At this time I was suffering from what the doctor stated was a goiter, which he said was growing inwardly and nothing but an operation could help. After hearing the many beautiful testimonies of healing, I left the church with the thought that if God through Christian Science could do so much for others, He certainly could heal me.
The next day an appointment was made with a practitioner. I was happily surprised when this practitioner lovingly explained to me the first and second chapters of Genesis in a way I had never heard them explained before. I was a member of an orthodox church, and had been active in church and Sunday school work since a child; but that was the first time I really understood what God is and man's true relationship to Him. I was told to purchase a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and the Christian Science Quarterly, and to read these with the Bible, and that I would have no more trouble with my throat. I did as I was told, and in less than ten days was completely healed of the goiter. With continued reading and attending the church services I soon found I had also been healed of chronic appendicitis and adhesions, from which I had long suffered, and which the doctor had said nothing but an operation could help. Since then I have had many other beautiful healings.
I am sincerely grateful for all these healings, but more grateful to have found a God of love, who is ever present. I am also grateful to Jesus, who brought us this truth; to Mrs. Eddy, who has shown us how to use it in our everyday life; and to the practitioners, who so lovingly help us in time of need.—(Mrs.) Lena H. Erwin, Santa Ana, California.
