Lecturer: Algernon Hervey bathurst; introduced by Miss Kathrine Aagaard, who said:—

When I was still in my teens I turned to my friends, clergy as well as laymen, for a clear interpretation of the Bible; but I was always met with the answer, "You are not asked to understand if you can only believe." This did not satisfy me. I put the Bible on the shelf, as it were, but the inner cry for light did not cease.
