A correspondent writing in the Bulletin makes this statement: "As a true follower of Jesus Christ and a firm believer in the full gospel, I think neither Mrs. Eddy nor any other person, except Jesus Christ, ever had or ever will have power to heal the sick." While your correspondent's remarks are kindly, and he expresses his views modestly, these views so far as they relate to Mrs. Eddy and to Christian Science call for comment and correction.

If your correspondent believes, as he says he does, in "the full gospel," he will not deny what the gospel contains. We read in Luke's Gospel (ninth chapter, first verse) that Christ Jesus gave to his twelve disciples "power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases." And in the sixth verse of the same chapter we are told that "they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where." We read further in the tenth chapter that the Master later sent forth seventy disciples on their healing mission, and that they returned, reporting success in this healing work. The book of Acts contains records of healing by Peter and John and Paul—healings which are readily accepted as authentic by Christians today.

Christ Jesus made clear that not only his followers in his own day, but also his followers in later times, would heal the sick in Christ's name. In fact, he gave this healing power as a test of their understanding of the truth he taught. He said, as recorded in Mark, "These signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover." The evidence that Mrs. Eddy healed the sick through the Christ-power is too abundant and conclusive to be gainsaid. The evidence that Christian Scientists are healing the sick in this way is beyond reasonable denial. The testimony meetings held every Wednesday evening in Christian Science churches give ample evidence of this fact. The testimonies published in The Christian Science Journal, in the Christian Science Sentinel, and in the Heralds of Christian Science constitute a reliable record of this healing work. Christians should welcome this restoration of primitive Christian healing, because it is a boon to humanity.
