On page 402 of the Christian Science textbook we read, "Christian Science is always the most skilful surgeon;" and it has been my great privilege to have proved these words to be no mere theory, but positive fact.

In the spring of 1931, while I was skating on an indoor ice rink, a fall resulted in a badly dislocated knee. So rapidly did the injury manifest itself that I was immediately carried to the first-aid room for attention. With me at the time was a friend who was interested in Christian Science, and I vaguely remember appealing for Science treatment. This was readily given. After an examination the first-aid men said that they could do nothing for me except put the limb in a splint while awaiting the arrival of an ambulance to take me to a hospital. Although in very great pain, I never before had felt so conscious of the presence of God as during the period of waiting: a presence which was reflected in the loving attention shown by those around me who were acting up to the very highest good they knew. A feeling of gratitude immediately displaced the feeling of almost ovewhelming fear, and, to the astonishment of several persons present, the joint moved back into place a moment before the arrival of the ambulance, which was not now required as I was able to make the journey home by taxi.

Two hours later I walked a distance of nearly a mile, and the next day was able to carry on with my usual work. Within two or three days all outward signs of the accident had disappeared, and no inconvenience has been experienced since. The healing was complete; and I feel that words are inadequate to express my gratitude for the experience and the lesson it taught me. Also I am grateful for the friends who so lovingly and spontaneously came to my aid.
