Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I am more grateful each day that this truth as taught in Christian Science came to my parents when I was a baby. I have known no other religion, and God has been my only physician; thereby I have been freed from unlearning many of the material beliefs so prevalent in mortal existence.
It was a wonderful and much appreciated privilege for me to attend the Christian Science Sunday School all my childhood and up to the age of twenty years. I can truly say that the instruction given in our Sunday schools establishes one's understanding on the "rock," which Mrs. Eddy defines as "spiritual foundation; Truth" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 593). The Sunday school grew to be such a joy to me that when it came time to leave, a great sense of loss and unhappiness overwhelmed me. As I worked over this problem I began to see that this was a step of progress, and therefore, since God's child is always in a state of progression, I could not suffer from loss or unhappiness of any kind. Shortly after, I was led to take another progressive step, for I became a member of a branch church and later a member of The Mother Church. Christian Science was a constant help during my school work, and is continuing to be an ever present help through my experiences in the business world.
When I was a small child a pan of boiling water was accidentally spilled over one of my arms from shoulder to finger tips. Instead of being allowed to entertain any sense of fear, I was immediately reminded of the Sunday school lesson which I had been studying earlier in the afternoon. It was a review of the Lord's Prayer, and as my mother and I repeated and studied it, all thought of the previous moment entirely left us. Three hours later we were unable to tell which arm had been burned, for the one was as entirely free from either spot or blemish as the other. The healing was accomplished quickly, thus proving that when we turn to God for help He never fails us.
