Signs of the Times

Daniel, a young man away from home, facing the temptations of Babylon, opened his window toward his home in Jerusalem and prayed to his God. This gave his moral life a different atmosphere than was furnished in the streets of Babylon. It placed in the center of his life the ideals of his childhood and his home. If we are to do our part in these trying days toward making a more friendly world, we must keep the windows of our minds open to certain things:

We must keep our minds open to human needs. By this I do not mean mere charity alone. This work is absolutely essential, but we must keep our minds open to ways and means of meeting the situation in such a brotherly way that these distressing situations could not possibly recur in like manner. We must be able to put ourselves in the other man's place and see life from his point of view....
