After thirteen years of continuous blessings as a result...
After thirteen years of continuous blessings as a result of the study and application of Christian Science, I feel impelled to give the world at least a portion of the fruits of my rich experience. Christian Science has proved helpful to me in more ways than I can possibly enumerate, and I can truthfully say that if seriously studied and practiced, it will help to eliminate all that seems wrong in our human affairs.
My first healing was of influenza and double pneumonia. According to the decision of one of the best physicians of our town, I was beyond medical help. At this point I was beautifully healed through the help of my father, who had been reading Christian Science only a short while. Later I developed lung trouble, gastritis, and a very serious throat trouble, lost my voice, and finally became a mental and physical wreck. I was unappreciative of what this blessed truth had accomplished for me, and reluctant to take up the study as my father had advised me to do after my first healing. I was, however, healed of these last-mentioned ailments overnight through absent treatment by a Christian Science practitioner, and this healing has proved to be permanent. At no time have I ever felt the slightest fear of a return of these conditions. After this convincing proof of God's unfailing help, I naturally became deeply interested in the study of Christian Science, and soon acquired enough understanding to take care of minor cases of healing work to be done in the home, and to help others. Whereas I was once a helpless invalid, I am now a strong, happy woman, enjoying the normal activities of a domestic life.
Christian Science has taught me that sickness is unreal, therefore untrue; it is unnecessary, and an experience that can certainly be avoided through the right apprehension of God, who "is able to make all grace abound toward you," and "who healeth all thy diseases." I have learned, when in the presence of any discordant condition, to exercise a calm, trusting mental state, thereby allowing good to gain dominion over the evil; for, as Mrs. Eddy says in "Christian Healing" (p. 10): "If you wish to be happy, argue with yourself on the side of happiness; take the side you wish to carry, and be careful not to talk on both sides, or to argue stronger for sorrow than for joy. You are the attorney for the case, and will win or lose according to your plea."
