From the moment my mother began the study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, she knew that it was the truth for which she had been searching. All material remedies were thrown away, and she turned whole-heartedly to God for the solution of every problem.

At this time I was about eight years old and greatly in need of healing. I had grown rapidly, and was in a constant state of weakness, susceptible to every passing ill. A crisis occurred when I was taken from school with a high fever which was followed by black diphtheria. The struggle was severe, but through the faithful help of a Christian Science practitioner I was healed and able to return to school in a few months.

In the busy schooldays that followed, my study of Christian Science was neglected, except in times of need, until I realized that I could not always look to my mother or a practitioner to do my work for me; that I too must understand the kind of thinking back of my healings. Then I began earnestly to study and to apply, in some degree, the truth I was learning.
