I did not become interested in Christian Science through any physical healing; in fact, I knew practically nothing of its healing efficacy, but was seeking a religion. After purchasing "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I put it away in a drawer for over a year, during which time we passed through a very trying experience under medical treatment. Then I decided to bring Science and Health from its hiding place and read it, because I had heard someone say it would help me to overcome fear.

When I started to read I thought it was very beautiful, until I reached page 120, where Mrs. Eddy says, "Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind; nor can the material senses bear reliable testimony on the subject of health." This statement caused much disturbance in my thinking, for it entirely reversed all my former beliefs, as I had been taught to look to matter and to depend upon the action of matter for health; but I determined to read on, praying that I might understand more. In my study of Christian Science for the past eighteen years I have learned to "look away from the body into Truth and Love, the Principle of all happiness, harmony, and immortality" (ibid., p. 261).

Many blessings have come to our family of four, also many healings; and our gratitude goes out to Mrs. Eddy, whose unselfish and untiring efforts have given to all mankind this wonderful revelation of the healing Christ.
