The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Eugene, Oregon (First Church).

Lecturer: Miss Margaret Murney Glenn; introduced by Arthur G. Bushman, who said:—

If you will pardon me but for a moment, I should like to use this opportunity to express my appreciation of Christian Science. Through its study and application I have been healed of many false traits of character and habits. One sensuous habit that attached itself to me as an innocent child became so bad that it impaired my health and left me a nervous wreck. Here Christian Science found me and freed me. The truth as taught in Christian Science has also enabled me to overcome the smoking habit, after being a slave to the cigarette for over thirteen years. I am convinced that anyone who will take up and earnestly study and apply Christian Science will soon learn and experience that it not only heals the sick but regenerates the sinner.

Brooklyn, New York (Third Church).

Lecturer: Gavin W. Allan; introduced by Albert P. Noltemeier, who said:—

Our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," writes (p. 516): "God fashions all things, after His own likeness. Life is reflected in existence, Truth in truthfulness, God in goodness, which impart their own peace and permanence. ... Man, made in His likeness, possesses and reflects God's dominion over all the earth." Here we are taught man's birthright of dominion, as a child of God. The acceptance of these truths has destroyed much that is erroneous in my consciousness, healing me of all desire for intoxicating liquors, of the smoking habit, of the use of profane language, also of so-called incurable dyspepsia. With these healings has come a great sense of peace, joy, and freedom. What Christian Science is doing for one, it will do for all, for "God is no respecter of persons."

Cannes, France (First Church).

Lecturer: Dr. Hendrik Jan de Lange; introduced by Miss Doris A. E. Sparrow, who said:—

In the tenth chapter of John we read that the Jews asked Jesus for a sign, saying, "If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly." Jesus answered, "I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me." The works of Christ Jesus were healing and regeneration. Christian Science, as revealed by Mary Baker Eddy, is proving that the healing power of Truth is not lost, but is the same to-day as it was long ago on the shores of Galilee. With thousands of other students I have found Christian Science the way out of every kind of difficulty, physical and moral. During the past eight years it has been a constant regenerating, protecting, healing power in my experience. I have been healed entirely by Christian Science of functional trouble and of insomnia.

Kansas City, Missouri (Sixth Church).

Lecturer: Charles V. Winn; introduced by Mrs. Bertha G. Rentschler, who said:—

"Wilt thou be made whole?" This searching question Jesus asked of one who sorely needed healing; of certain others he inquired, "Believe ye that I am able to do this?" I gratefully recall an experience I had last year while attending a lecture on Christian Science, after I had been troubled with a painful disorder for several weeks. I went in confident expectation that I should receive a blessing, my confidence being strengthened by the many proofs I have witnessed of the healing power of the Word of God, and the assurance that God bestows good impartially. During the evening, like the woman of old, I felt in my body that I was whole of that plague. Healings are the natural fruits of Christian Science lectures, and each one of us may cast aside his burden "and bear a song away."
