"An house not made with hands"

It should be a cause for rejoicing that the call has gone out to the Field to erect a new Publishing House to care for the enlarging work of our movement. Christian Science, as we well know, revealing the perfection and continuity of being, is destined eventually to destroy every false belief about God and His creation. Like an ever rising tide this truth is flowing into every hidden corner of the world, and in response men are turning to the right sources of information on the subject. The demand is constantly increasing, born of humanity's need for a demonstrable, a practical, way out of the difficulties which seem to beset it on every hand. Greater and greater must be the outpouring of love on the part of those who have some understanding of this divine way of salvation, that the need may be met; and many are the arguments which would attempt to stem the flow of gratitude which the building of our new Publishing House will express.

In pondering this demand, it is essential to remember that it is made on the inexhaustible resources of divine Mind, not on a limited sense of human ability. Paul said, "We have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." The increased activity in the erecting of the new Publishing House is a manifestation of the care of infinite Love for the needs of His children. No one need feel burdened in its erection, for the substance of which it must be primarily constructed is spiritual, and its source unlimited. Man, made in the image and likeness of God, reflects His abundance; he does not and could not create this abundance; God is responsible for it, and nothing can impede its continuous outflow. This is a divine law, the realization of which dispels every limiting belief. Mrs. Eddy makes this clear on page 5 of "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," when she says, "Wholly apart from this mortal dream, this illusion and delusion of sense, Christian Science comes to reveal man as God's image, His idea, coexistent with Him—God giving all and man having all that God gives." Man never creates anything, since everything already exists in Mind; his effortless part is to manifest what God knows.

Someone may inquire if Christian Scientists have, then, no effort to make in the erecting of the Publishing House. Most certainly they have. It requires constant, united prayer to overcome the material beliefs inherent in mortal thought, to rest confidently in the omnipotence of Spirit, allowing the spiritual idea to unfold itself and to guide, direct, and inspire every phase of the human activity necessary to accomplishment. The process is, however, essentially spiritual. Mrs. Eddy tells us (ibid., p. 348), "Divine Life, Truth, Love is the basic Principle of all Science, it solves the problem of being; and nothing that worketh ill can enter into the solution of God's problems." Therefore only good can come to those who are participating in this building in their consciousness of a greater reliance on God. Personal difficulties, fears, or doubts melt before the understanding of God's absolute control over every idea in His creation.
