It is over fifteen years since I first heard of Christian Science
It is over fifteen years since I first heard of Christian Science. It came to me in a time of great sorrow. Many physicians had examined my little son, who had severe fainting spells, but not one of them gave me any hope. Finally we went to California, thinking the climate might be of benefit to him. The second Sunday we were there he said, "Mother, I want to take you to a church, and you not know where you are going." We walked several blocks and passed some churches, but when we came to the Christian Science church he said, "Let us go in here." Neither one of us knew anything about Christian Science at that time. The subject of the Lesson-Sermon was "Love," and the first hymn was "The Mother's Evening Prayer" by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, beginning, "O gentle presence, peace and joy and power" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 389; Poems, pp. 4, 5). The words of the hymn seemed illumined, and I thought it was the most beautiful service I had ever listened to. I was assured and confident that the spirit of our blessed Master was present and that my little son was healed. But before I could tell him he pulled me down and whispered in my ear, "Mother, let us always come to this church; I know I am never going to be sick again." My fear of losing him left me at that service, and needless to say his healing was instantaneous and permanent.
We have had many healings since then, and many times have realized the protecting power of God through the study and application of Christian Science. I have been healed of nervous breakdown, neuritis, headaches, and eczema.
One Friday morning, just as I was leaving my room, these words, written on page 375 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, arrested my attention: "Palsy is a belief that matter governs mortals, and can paralyze the body, making certain portions of it motionless. Destroy the belief, show mortal mind that muscles have no power to be lost, for Mind is supreme, and you cure the palsy." Within a few moments after I read these truths, God proved conclusively, not only to me but to all who saw me at that time, that "Mind is supreme."
