It is with joy and gratitude that I wish to testify to the healing power of Truth. Many years ago, when Christian Science was first brought to my attention, it seemed to me difficult and contradictory. However, I read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as well as the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, in the hope of freeing myself from tenacious and annoying error. But I soon abandoned my studies because the immediate healing for which I had hoped did not manifest itself.
Without my having realized it the seed had been sown and I often thought of this verse from the Bible, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Little by little I began to look for this truth in the textbook and the other authorized Christian Science literature. It took me a long time to understand that I had to change my way of thinking, but when the light came I was healed; and this healing encouraged me to go on with my search. Now I can say that the more I advance in my study of Christian Science the happier I am.
Error which has tried to present itself under one form or another has disappeared many times through the help of faithful practitioners. A little more than three years ago I was rushed to the hospital as an emergency case to undergo a serious operation. I was very much discouraged, not having been able to call on a practitioner for help. Yet I was not alone! When I went under the influence of the anæsthetic I suddenly seemed to see these words written in big letters: God is my Life. On awakening, I learned to my joy that the operation had not taken place. Although it seemed best for me to stay a few days in the hospital they were happy and peaceful days, during which I was surrounded by love and kindness.
