Good in Cause and Effect
Christian Science proclaims the consistency of God and His creation, of cause and effect, and from this basis refutes matter and evil in all their subjective and objective presumptions. The myth of evil is to be denied presence and power, on the ground that God has endowed it with neither, and that there is no endowment but His. This scientific stand is the only one that can be taken by the Christian in view of the statement in Genesis that "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good," and that of John which complements it, "Without him [the Word] was not any thing made that was made."
On this basis Christian Science is combating evil scientifically; it is destroying disease, sin, and other evidences of the credited myth of materiality. By healing and regeneration it is bringing out the fact that everything actually existing springs from Spirit and Love, and is therefore unalterably spiritual and good.
In order that we may express good in action, this word "good" should be constantly in our hearts and on our lips. We should think of good in connection with our secretarial, engineering, agricultural, or other work, and prove it so. In performing our daily duties we should hold to the idea of perfection behind the duties and so find the way of good accomplishment. In praise of God's creation each one can do good work in his own line and can regard this work as affording a means to this lofty end.
