"Them that believe"

Jesus said, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils," and he included in these signs speaking with new tongues, protection from serpents and any supposedly deadly thing, and healing the sick. Here is a statement of Christianity in action, the call to which every Christian should awake and respond.

On page 582 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy defines "believing" in part as "firmness and constancy; not a faltering nor a blind faith, but the perception of spiritual Truth." Every quality of divine Mind is mirrored in His image. Firmness in taking one's stand for Mind's supremacy rules out weakness, vacillation, fear. Firmness in truth rules out infirmity—mental, moral, and physical. Constancy is akin to steadfastness, mental integrity, allegiance to good, faithfulness, consistency, perseverance in the right. Spiritual perception supersedes blind, faltering faith. Perception of Truth and the understanding of true identity are inherent in spiritual man, and he is naturally allegiant to divine Principle, for he knows nothing of the false claim of dualism.

" 'Them that believe,' " Mrs. Eddy says, "signifies those who understand God's supremacy,—the power of Mind over matter" (Christian Healing, p. 7). To study Christian Science without giving proof of our understanding would, in time, cause us to fall out of the ranks of active demonstrators of the healing power of divine Love—of "them that believe." Constant study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings, with increasing grasp of their meaning and potency, accompanied by healing demonstration, is the combination to which all who are sincere and zealous can attain.
