The Pure in Heart

Another generation comes,
According to God's Word,
To call thee blesséd,
Mary.
O stainless loveliness!
No storm of passion,
No shrouding mist of self,
Held thee earth-bound.
In thy clear heart
The face of God was mirrored,
And there a star was born—
A holy thing was come—
To light the world.
A woman blessed indeed,
To mother such a light!

He said, as if remembering thee,
The pure in heart
Shall blesséd be;
They see the face of God.
Such holy words
That promise blessedness!
Unto the pure in heart
Of any age,
As unto Mary's heart,
The Christ shall come,
A radiant flood of heavenly light
To glorify the world!
