Christmas

Once again angelic voices
Bring their message to our earth,
Bring to listening ones assurance
Of the young child's holy birth.

Not as came to shepherds olden
In the quiet of the night,
Not with joyous alleluias,
Not with star of Bethlehem's light,

But through wakened thought within us
Who are tuned to hear God's voice,
Comes the Christ, and coming tells us,
I am here! rejoice, rejoice!

Gone the swaddling clothes and manger,
Gone the worship of the kings,
But the Christ, forever present,
Still to us God's message brings.
