All that I am and have—physically, mentally, morally, and financially—I owe to Christian Science, and therefore I have a debt of gratitude to its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, which can be repaid only by a further study to show myself "approved unto God." Humble, unfeigned reverence fills my heart for one so noble as our beloved Leader, through whose teachings I have gained such a measure of freedom and happiness.

In early girlhood organic trouble was very pronounced, and as the years went by nearly one week in three was spent in bed. Later this culminated in my having to be continually in the surgeon's care, and for thirty years my sufferings were indescribable. Five operations were performed—three major and two minor; three times I went down into the valley with internal hemorrhage, until at the end I was a physical wreck.

But through all these suffering, heart-hungry years there had been a deep desire to do God's will, with a secondary desire to stay with my little son. After the fifth operation my prayer was still only to do God's will and go His way, yet it seemed inevitable that death would claim me. The kindly surgeon could do no more, and in consequence every preparation was made for my passing on.
