When Christian Science was first presented to me material...
When Christian Science was first presented to me material means had been exhausted and I was in a hopeless condition. As the result of a tragic accident in which the greater part of my body was seriously burned, I had been confined to my bed for seven months under the constant care of skillful physicians and nurses. I was in bondage to the strongest medicines and stimulants and to the use of morphine in increasing quantities. Consultations were held with eminent doctors and specialists and experiments were made through many days and nights in the attempt to eliminate the use of the morphine, which had been given continually to relieve pain, but it was impossible to do so, and no hope whatever was held out for my recovery.
Christian Science had been mentioned to my parents, but we were all members of another church and knew nothing about it; however, at this critical time my family decided that if Christian Science could be of any help they were willing to try it. The one nurse who remained in attendance lovingly agreed to cooperate in all ways and said she would welcome help from any source. After my father interviewed a Christian Science practitioner late one afternoon, the practitioner called at our home to see me in the evening. I shall always remember the love which he expressed and the renewed hope and courage which he brought to us all.
Christian Science treatment was given and before the practitioner left I was sleeping naturally, for the first time in many months. I continued to sleep until midnight without the use of any of the drugs or stimulants which had previously been given. When morning came it brought to me a truly new day, for, to the astonishment of all, I found myself healed of the desire for drugs, and from that day until now there has been no need nor desire for any drug.
