Years of happiness and immeasurable help received...

Years of happiness and immeasurable help received through Christian Science fill me with deep gratitude and the desire to send an account of my experiences abroad where it may be of service.

When I was twelve years old doctors pronounced me tubercular, and advised an immediate change of climate. A dear friend of the family, aware of my parents' distress, asked permission to help me. They knew she was a Christian Scientist, and agreed, giving little thought to what she might mean by "help." I awoke the next morning completely healed, and the doctors called it a miracle.

During the next seven years I attended a Christian Science Sunday School, learning much of the letter of Christian Science but little of the spirit. It was an experience that is, perhaps, not uncommon. I was so beautifully protected that few problems came my way, and no individual effort was put forth on my part to grasp anything deeper than the surface. With a heart filled with love I recall the tender patience of my teacher. As deeply as I regret the years that might have yielded a firm foundation for future growth, I do not feel sorry that this experience was mine. It has caused me to cherish earnest study and individual application, and has taught me that Christian Science cannot be given by any one of us to another. It must be desired, searched for, learned, and understood by each one of God's children for himself.
