About seventeen years ago I called on a Christian Science...
About seventeen years ago I called on a Christian Science practitioner for the first time. During my short visit with him I was told that after reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy for about two weeks he had noticed one morning about eleven o'clock that he did not have his glasses on and learned that he did not need them. Prior to that time he had worn glasses for twenty-five years. The next day I left the city for a small town, primarily on account of illness, thinking I could not hold a position at that time. About three weeks later the thought came to me that I had forgotten to put on my glasses until about noon each day for a week, and I then decided I did not need them. I have never worn glasses since that time.
It was several years before I gave God and Christian Science due credit for this healing. However, it was never forgotten. I now wish to take this opportunity to express gratitude for this healing, which, to me, has been an outstanding one. At that time I had the thought that if I were to go back into a commercial office I should need glasses. Within a few weeks I was called over long-distance telephone by one in a neighboring town asking me to work for him. I accepted the position, and have worked about thirteen years without any discomfort. On page 486 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy says: "Sight, hearing, all the spiritual senses of man, are eternal. They cannot be lost." By holding to the thought that spiritual sight cannot be lost, I have been able to perform all duties.
After studying Christian Science for a while and giving it up when a serious illness was not overcome so quickly as I thought it should be, I was told by a physician that I had a tumor. I decided immediately to seek help in Christian Science. When I returned home I read "The People's Idea of God" by Mrs. Eddy, and also a testimony wherein the writer stated that she went to a certain city to undergo an operation for a tumor, but that her sister, who was a Christian Scientist, told her that she need not undergo an operation—that God never made a tumor. This was the first time that the reality and perfection of all things in Mind was revealed to me. I was almost immediately relieved, and it was not necessary to ask a practitioner for treatment. This healing took place about eight years ago, and since that time I have sought no means of help other than Christian Science.
