Previous to taking up the study of Christian Science I...
Previous to taking up the study of Christian Science I had been in very poor health for many years, and had been obliged to give up my profession as a teacher on account of a physical and nervous breakdown. Over twelve years ago the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, was lent to me; but I put it in a drawer and refused to look at it. Two years later I lost the use of my legs, and it was at that time I first had Christian Science treatment. I had an almost instantaneous healing of many discordant conditions, including acute anæmia and excessive weariness. After the first present treatment by a loving and consecrated practitioner I was able to lay aside walking sticks and all other material help; and since then—now ten years ago—I have relied on Christian Science for everything. I have been healed of ptomaine poisoning and a fractured wrist, as well as a great sorrow and many faults of character. I have also experienced wonderful protection in cases of accident, once in a bus and another time in a skidding car.
I am intensely grateful for the peace and quiet of our Reading Rooms, for the great privilege of membership in The Mother Church and a loyal branch church, and for the priceless help of class instruction. I am daily proving that "an acknowledgment of the perfection of the infinite Unseen confers a power nothing else can" (Unity of Good, p. 7). My greatest wish is that I may be a more consistent Christian Scientist.
