It is a wonderful privilege to give this testimony of the love and life Christian Science has brought to me. At the time I began the study of the Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, along with the Bible, I was in utter darkness. I began the study simply to see if I could prove to myself the presence of God. The verdict of the doctors had made me feel that if I could not prove that God gave all His children the same opportunity, I wanted to die. The days were dark, and the temptation kept coming to me that I was doomed to be sick in body and in soul. But finally I read part of Mrs. Eddy's definition of "valley" on page 596 of Science and Health: "Depression; meekness; darkness." The words of hope that followed brought the first rays of light, and so enlightened my thought that I started out to seek this beautiful truth. Many friends helped me on my way.
I am more grateful for the spiritual peace and enlightenment gained through the study of Christian Science than words can express. Numerous physical disorders have been overcome, giving place to good health for myself and my children, for love flooded my barren heart.
The removal of hatred, resentment, jealousy, doubt, and suspicion in my thinking of my fellow man I owe to the consecrated work of a loving practitioner, who was very patient with my slow progress. All the days of my life I shall be grateful for her work and her understanding of God's laws. To be free from sinful, erroneous thoughts of my fellow man has meant more to me than the healing of the body, for it has enabled me to glimpse the perfect man of God's creating and to appreciate Mrs. Eddy's words on page 10 of Science and Health: "Seeking is not sufficient. It is striving that enables us to enter;" also the words of Jesus, "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." I am grateful that I have come to see that we cannot receive the kingdom of God when our hearts are filled with erroneous thoughts. Truly, Christian Science has changed existence as from death to life for me.
