I have been informed that in a sermon recently delivered in a church in Gilliam remarks were made derogatory to Christian Science and to its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy. In view of this may I respectfully ask you to publish the following brief comment on the teachings of Christian Science.
Christian Science is the religion which was taught and practiced by Christ Jesus. Jesus was an exponent of spiritual law. He proved his understanding of the law of God by his works of healing and regeneration. When questioned by the disciples of John the Baptist, Jesus pointed particularly to his healing works as evidence of his divine authority. He taught not only his twelve disciples but many others how to heal by an understanding of spiritual law. Primitive Christianity included a demonstrable understanding of God as an essential part of the religion; but the sacred art of spiritual healing faded from human experience probably during the third century of the Christian era on account of materialism gaining a foothold in the church.
Mrs. Eddy discovered, in the year 1866, the divine law of spiritual healing. This fact is each day becoming more generally acknowledged throughout the world. Her discovery came after many years of earnest study of the Bible. She has given a full explication of this law in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." That Christian Science teaches the truth about God and His laws of eternal harmony is attested by the works of healing and regeneration which are being accomplished daily by earnest students of Christian Science in all parts of the world.
