Peace

Protect us, O our Father, from the sword
Of whispering tongues, which poison and defame;
Keep us obedient to Thy precious Word:
As our loved Master was, make us the same.

Let us not in self-righteousness refuse
To comfort those who from Thy pathway stray,
But rather succor them, that they may choose
To turn again to These to praise and pray.

Teach us to give our highest and our best
To this, Thy church, which has our hunger healed.
Then in Thy wisdom can we safely rest
From fear and from malicious thought concealed.

Our freedom is obedience to Thy will,
Our joy, Thy work to do each day, each hour,
Thy Cause to cherish, Thy law to fulfill,
And our reward Love's "peace and joy and power." Miscellaneous Writings, page 389; Poems, page 4, by Mary Baker Eddy.
