The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Los Angeles, California (Christian Science organization at the University of California).

Lecturer: Paul Stark Seeley; introduced by George Bauer Toll, who said:—

The Discoverer and Founder of this religion, Mary Baker Eddy, discerned and pointed out in her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 570), that "millions of unprejudiced minds—simple seekers for Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert—are waiting and watching for rest and drink." But Mrs. Eddy did more than to acknowledge this desire for Truth; she established the agencies to fulfill it. Before presenting the lecturer let me say that I once had a strong prejudice against Christian Science, regarding it as a sort of soothing syrup for the simple-minded, or a semiphilosophical quackery leading people to believe that imagination would bring them whatever their hearts desired. But as I was led to hear the right explanation of this Science, I found it to be a throughly logical and practical law of intelligence and love; the prejudice was dispelled, and false ideas were corrected.
