I am very grateful for Christian Science, and especially grateful for the healing of a very bad nervous breakdown and anæmia, which occurred some years ago. I had help in Christian Science, but the healing was very slow, so slow that I was often tempted to be discouraged. On one occasion, when feeling very much discouraged, I remember praying very earnestly for an understanding heart—I did so long to know more of the nature of God, as taught in Christian Science. This was the beginning of the healing, for I tried not to think of the physical body, with its aches and pains, but to put into practice the small understanding of Truth which I had. With the loving help of a practitioner I was gradually healed, and for five years and a half have led a useful, active, and very happy life.
I am most grateful for this experience, because Christian Science had come into my home when I was about eleven years of age, and I had always loved it, but had not made it my own; and during this experience I was able to do this, for which I shall never be grateful enough. During this time Mrs. Eddy's hymns were a great source of comfort, and I was helped many times while realizing the truth in them.
I have been healed of many other difficulties, including weak ankles and wrists, influenza, rheumatism, and many erroneous traits of character. At one time my eyes troubled me. For about five years I wore glasses continually, but I was able to leave them off to a very large extent when I began to realize that my sight was spiritual, and that I saw through the lens of unselfishness and humility. I use glasses now only for very small print, and I know that as my vision of the Christ becomes clearer I shall not need them at all.
