I am so grateful for this opportunity to tell of a beautiful...
I am so grateful for this opportunity to tell of a beautiful healing which I experienced through the ministration of Christian Science, and which was an outstanding proof of God's presence and power. On October 25, 1929, my working partner and I were repairing a valve on an eight-inch feed line to a battery of six boilers carrying a pressure of one hundred and twenty-five pounds of steam. We had almost completed our work when suddenly a connection burst, releasing a force of steam which threw me back against a wall, injuring my shoulder blade and causing me to inhale a quantity of the live steam. Falling to the floor of the building, I managed to crawl outside. I was very quickly placed in a conveyance and taken to the city hospital. I asked my foreman, who had accompanied me there, to call a Christian Science practitioner for help, which he kindly did. The steam had struck with such force that my face was severely burned and covered with "coke breeze" (a fine coal dust), which was embedded in the flesh.
On the following day an X-ray picture of my shoulder was taken, which showed that the shoulder blade was cracked. When the physician informed me of this, I surprised him by raising my arm freely above my head, and with no sense of pain; nevertheless he strapped my shoulder with adhesive tape and cautioned me not to use my arm too freely. Two days after the accident a nurse volunteered to remove the "coke breeze" from my face. In spite of the fact that the procedure necessitated the peeling off of a portion of the skin, I was grateful to assure the nurse and several others who witnessed the operation that I suffered no pain. I left the hospital, after just one week's stay, with my face healed and clean-shaven. I was obliged to visit the company doctor several times to convince him that the shoulder was all right.
I am indeed grateful for the loving work of the practitioner in this as well as in other healing experiences that have been mine; also for the Christian Science movement and for the life of its beloved Founder and Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who has made it possible for us to understand our relation to God and to Christ Jesus, who said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." I am thankful, too, for membership in The Mother Church and one of its authorized branches; and thankful also for the periodicals.
