While on a vacation trip in the summer of 1920, I broke...
While on a vacation trip in the summer of 1920, I broke my arm. After having it set and reset by a doctor, I suffered greatly; so a relative suggested that I have Christian Science treatment. To this I consented, and experienced quick relief from pain, as well as the complete healing in three weeks. This created in me a desire to know more of this great truth, on which I have ever since relied.
Immediately following an attack of influenza, while I was attending normal school, it was necessary for me to write my final examinations. Error tried to whisper, You are too weak; you cannot write. By clinging steadfastly, with the help of a practitioner, to the fact that my strength was from God, I did write. We realized that as God's child I reflected divine intelligence, and nothing could deprive me of righteous reward, since I had performed my work faithfully. The result was that examinations never before had seemed so easy. The fact that I obtained one of the highest standings for the year I attribute wholly to the realization of the truth.
One experience, which proved to me beyond a doubt that Christian Science teaches the art of healing as it was practiced by Jesus, occurred a few years ago while I was teaching in a small village. There were no other Scientists in this village, and the people with whom I boarded were very much opposed to what they thought Christian Science to be. One day while teaching I suddenly became helpless. My mother, who was visiting there at the time, was called, and I was removed to the boarding house. The condition grew worse, fever and congestion of the lungs being manifested. A message was sent to a practitioner asking for treatment. My mother read to me most of the time, but finally it seemed necessary that I should be removed to where she could be relieved. Through the practitioner's work a way opened up; and, in an unconscious condition, I was removed in a car a distance of approximately one hundred and twenty miles, to where the needed help could be obtained. The two following days I dwelt in the shadow of the death valley; but the reading by the practitioner about the Shunammite woman and her son, together with the thought that matter has no life to lose, roused me; and four days later I attended church.
