I want to express my gratitude for the teachings of Christian Science. All that I have, and all that I am, I owe to Christian Science. When it was first presented to me, many years ago, everything looked dark; not a ray of light could I see. Our material supply was apparently about to be cut off, for the doctors decided after a consultation that the best place for our loved one who was suffering was Saranac, New York, and I was to be left alone with our child and no means of support.
Truly, "man's extremity is God's opportunity," and it was so in my case. A brother, who came to see us one Sunday morning asked, "Why not try Christian Science?" We were glad to turn to it, and the next morning I called a practitioner to our home. When she came her face was radiant, she was so full of hope and joy. After the treatment she arranged for the patient to go to her office next morning. The healing was complete and perfect at the second treatment. The third day he returned to work, and has never had a sign of the trouble since.
In spite of this beautiful healing I was not ready to accept Christian Science. Previous to this I had been a trained nurse, and I was so filled with medical theories I did not believe I could bring up a child without them. But gradually the light of Truth began to dawn upon my consciousness, and I soon realized that the only right way to bring up a child is in the understanding of God as taught in Christian Science; and that has been proved to me step by step. Our boy came in one afternoon with a fully developed case of measles. It was healed in twenty-four hours.
