In a review appearing in the "Book Browsing" columns of your issue for June 22, it is alleged that Mary Baker Eddy possessed characteristics "which caused a large group of persons to accord her deity."

Such an averment only derogates from the asserted indubitableness of the book reviewed; for nothing could be farther from the truth than a charge that Christian Scientists accord deity to any human personality. They accord Deity to God alone, as even a superficial examination of the teachings of Christian Science discloses.

To those who have found healing, hope, strength, courage, regeneration, and a larger life through Christian Science, the teachings, self-sacrifice, and accomplishments of Mrs. Eddy are ever an inspiration; and they entertain a deep appreciation of her through whom so much of spiritual good has come to them. But no one having a proper concept of Mrs. Eddy, her teachings, or her students, would say that she had ever been "acclaimed as a Messiah," or Christ, as stated in the review under consideration.
