[Written for the Sentinel]

The Christian Science Practitioner

Not of the tribe of Judah,
Wearing no signet ring;
Yet by the Son of David
Called to be priest and king.

Anointed, not by Samuel,
But by the King above;
Not with the oil of olives,
But with an unselfed love.

Clad, not in priestly garments
Wrought with a cunning art,
But with a humble spirit,
And purity of heart.

Thus called, anointed, covered,
Forth to the harvest go,
And on earth's sick and burdened
Love's healing balm bestow.
