Harmony

While one of the many good concerts which the radio constantly brings to us was being enjoyed, it was noted that the voice of the soloist suddenly lost its sweet tone and became harsh and unlovely. Without a moment's doubt of the quality of the singer's voice, the hostess hastened to the radio. After a quiet turning of the dials the voice again came through clear, sweet, and beautiful.

Pondering this simple experience, a student of Christian Science saw the resemblance between this process and the daily striving to keep the channels of our thoughts free from anything that would mar the harmony of our lives. If our thought deviates in the least from the straight line of the truth, we are missing by that much the perfect reception of the truth, together with all the joy and happiness which it brings one. The Bible enjoins us, "Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment."

At the first indication of poor reception in our radio we immediately turn the dials this way or that, striving to clear the channel, knowing full well that the error is not in the music itself, but in our reception of it. As we instantly reject all suggestions of envy, jealousy, resentment, anger, or fear, our reception of harmony will be clear and uninterrupted.
