"Trust ye in the Lord for ever"
CHRISTIAN SCIENCE is teaching men the true nature of God and how to put their trust in Him. It is revealing to them His unlimited goodness and love, His omnipotence and omnipresence, and showing them how they may avail themselves at all times of that goodness, love, and power. It is saying to them, even as did Isaiah, "Trust ye in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength." How strong was the prophet's faith in God! And Christian Science, which in every particular agrees with the teaching of Christ Jesus, inculcates the same faith, showing how it insures divine aid. Mrs. Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 444), "Step by step will those who trust Him find that 'God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.'"
God is never absent from anyone. God is infinite Mind, and man is the image, reflection, or idea of this Mind. Hence, there is never any separation between God and the real man; and the real man is the spiritual selfhood of each of us. This means that in reality we as individuals are ever at-one with, ever allied to, omnipotent good. Let material sense suggest what it may to the contrary, the great spiritual truth remains that man is continually supported by divine Mind, continually supplied with life, love, and good, even to an unlimited extent.
When one understands God as Christian Science reveals Him, and knows the true relationship existing between God and man, it is not difficult to see how steadfast faith in God can be established. The reason why so many have little or no faith in Deity is that they are correctly informed neither about God nor about man. They do not know God as infinite Love, infinite Spirit; and so they believe in the reality of matter and evil. And as long as they so believe they will continue to be victimized, their faith in God necessarily remaining undeveloped and of little service to them. Obviously, their need is spiritual enlightenment, an understanding of absolute Truth, since this alone will insure the faith which can remove mountains of material fallacies. Our Leader writes on page 368 of Science and Health, "The confidence inspired by Science lies in the fact that Truth is real and error is unreal."
