The purpose of this letter is not to take issue with a clergyman with respect to his syndicated article on tuberculosis and Christian Science, printed in a recent edition of your paper, but to hold out some degree of hope to those who may be struggling with that disease, and to whom his statement must have been decidedly depressing.

Christian Science is not merely a system of human thinking, nor does it consist of "emphatic denials" of discordant conditions. It is the reinstatement of primitive Christianity, which, as taught by Christ Jesus, was found efficacious in the healing of all manner of disease. This healing power was by no means limited to the practice of Jesus, but was used by his followers for many years later, and is available now in so far as it is understood. Christian Scientists do not claim to have attained a full understanding of this Science, but they do understand that God's power has not changed since Jesus' time, and that it can be demonstrated in proportion to one's fidelity to divine Principle.

To believe that men must remain at the mercy of disease, or that omnipotence is powerless in the presence of "germs" is not to understand Christ Jesus' teachings. Many have been healed of tuberculosis in Christian Science after all other means had failed; and their testimonies may be found in our weekly publication, the Christian Science Sentinel; or in our monthly, The Christian Science Journal; or they may be heard in our Wednesday evening testimony meetings.
