The first time I visited a Christian Science practitioner...
The first time I visited a Christian Science practitioner one of my children was healed of what the doctors had diagnosed as rickets. In two weeks he had reached the average height and weight of a child of his age, and the practitioner told me to give him all he wanted to eat. This was indeed a test, for he had been taking only small quantities of a few foods, and this was often followed by distressing results. I was very glad to give up the fear and sense of burden, and it was astonishing to see how much he ate. I felt the blessing, however, to be too great to be reckoned in terms of pounds and inches. He is now the picture of health.
With the help of the practitioner another of our boys was healed of blood poisoning, which appeared to be quite threatening. The symptoms disappeared in a few hours. Our youngest boy was healed very quickly of a wound on the top of his head. He came to the house crying; but I spoke cheerfully to him, voicing the truth. He seemed frightened at the evidence of the discord. The bleeding soon stopped, and he played happily the rest of the day.
Some time ago I was healed of a severe scald in one hour. I spilled about a quart of water that was just about ready to boil, on my foot. I took the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and went to a quiet room to do the work of correcting my thought about the situation. I did not look at my foot or attend to it, but did attend to my thinking. When my thoughts about the incident were corrected, the sense of pain and swelling vanished, and when next I had occasion to look at the foot it was healed. These are only a few of the healings we have had. However, they are only the signposts that point to reality. We are grateful for all the physical healings and for the increasing sense of freedom and peace.
