It was in March, 1917, that I received my first healing in Christian Science. For weeks I had been suffering from inflammatory rheumatism and nervous prostration, gradually growing weaker and depending more and more upon morphine hypodermic injections for relief from pain. The physician predicted a long siege and a year of invalidism to be spent in a warmer climate. This advice was not at all cheering, because it seemed financially difficult to carry out. In my extremity a relative suggested to my mother that Christian Science be given a trial. This seemed a direct answer to a desire that was ever in my thought: Oh, for a contented heart! Against the advice of the physician, who washed his hands of all responsibility, a Christian Science practitioner was sent for and treatment was begun. The healing was instantaneous; for at once I arose from my bed (the first time in six weeks), dressed, and went out of doors, despite the bleak March weather. Neighbors marveled, as well as my immediate family, especially since there was no period of convalescence or suggestion of relapse.

Since this healing there have been many other beautiful proofs of the efficacy of Mind-healing, such as the healing of pneumonia, fevers, sorrow, and a transformation in character which is continuous. Gratitude is best expressed in daily endeavors; and although the way is beset with obstacles, there is always reason for rejoicing.

On pages 365 and 366 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy one reads, "The poor suffering heart needs its rightful nutriment, such as peace, patience in tribulation, and a priceless sense of the dear Father's loving-kindness."
