Morning Press
The writer of a letter published in your issue of December 22 was mistaken when he implied that Christian Science is based on the human control of material energy.
On the contrary, Christian Science declares the omnipotent and omnipresent control of man and the universe by God, Spirit, and the consequent nothingness of material energy and human will-power. Such a basis is Christian because it is consistent with the teachings of Christ Jesus, who said, "I can of mine own self do nothing," and, "It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing." The Master had an exalted understanding of these truths and demonstrated them in "healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people." Furthermore, he expected his followers to heal both sickness and sin by his spiritually-mental method, for he said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also."
Gratefully acknowledging Christ Jesus as the Way-shower, Christian Science attributes all power to God, Spirit; and by utilizing this omnipotent power it establishes health and harmony in mankind. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 445), Mary Baker Eddy says, "Christian Science silences human will, quiets fear with Truth and Love, and illustrates the unlabored motion of the divine energy in healing the sick."
