Evening Post

I should be glad of space in your columns to correct some statements in an article which appeared in your issue of March 18, in which a reverend gentleman refers to Christian Science as another form of spiritualism, classifying it with occultism, theosophy, psychic phenomena, etc.

Christian Science has nothing whatever in common with these cults; on the contrary, it is based on the teachings of Christ Jesus, the master Christian, whose consciousness was filled with eternal spiritual truth.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, there is a chapter entitled "Christian Science versus Spiritualism." On page 71 of this book are found the following words: "The basis and structure of spiritualism are alike material and physical. Its spirits are so many corporealities, limited and finite in character and quality. Spiritualism therefore presupposes Spirit, which is ever infinite, to be a corporeal being, a finite form,—a theory contrary to Christian Science." And on page 73: "God controls man, and God is the only Spirit. Any other control or attraction of so-called spirit is a mortal belief, which ought to be known by its fruit,—the repetition of evil."
