Some fourteen years ago, when in my seventy-third year, I was attracted to Christian Science through a young person who had come to live with me. After she had been in my home a few months I found she had had a wonderful healing through Christian Science after being in a hospital for a considerable time, undergoing two or three operations, and being discharged as incurable and dependent on crutches. I began the study of Christian Science at that time.
About a year and a half ago I became very ill, and asked help of a Christian Science practitioner; but my daughters, with whom I live and who are not Christian Scientists, called in a doctor. He was told I was a Christian Scientist, and I found him somewhat sympathetic, but he begged me to take his medicine as it could not do me any harm and my daughters would be so anxious and worried if I did not do so. I yielded to his request and took the medicine under protest. I seemed to mend a little, but dropped back two or three times, and was at the point of passing on.
I then said to the doctor, "I cannot serve God and mammon," and refused to take any more medicine. I began to improve from that time, and continued to do so at a faster rate than any of them expected. The doctor and all were greatly surprised, considering as they did my advanced age. This experience taught me much and uplifted me in spiritual understanding. I am deeply thankful for Christian Science, God's great gift.—(Mrs.) Elizabeth Harrison, Felixstowe, Suffolk, England.
