In Proverbs we read: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." And in the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 454), our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, writes, "Love inspires, illumines, designates, and leads the way." These two statements have brought great comfort to me.

For many years I was affiliated with a hospital in New York City as a member of the office staff. Familiarity with the names of diseases and their symptoms soon had its effect upon my consciousness, and in many instances I fell victim to these ills. The last diagnosis made by one of the surgeons disclosed an enlarged kidney, which he said necessitated an operation. This I refused.

While I was still employed in the hospital, Christian Science was presented to me by a friend, but I was not interested. In 1915, divine Love led me to California, where I found that a sister and another relative were students of this glorious truth. They spent much time reading the truths from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, and I was greatly inspired. I found the way—the only way. I am grateful for many physical healings, of sick headaches, bilious attacks, and enlarged kidney; also for the overcoming of desire for human sympathy. Christian Science is teaching me to think more of giving and less of getting.
