Christian Scientists are not taught to ignore evil, but to overcome it with good. This good is not a mere sentiment, it is the understanding of the power and presence of God, good. There is nothing of laissez-faire in this attitude, but a recognition of the necessity for obedience to the command of our Master, Christ Jesus, "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison." In other words, Recognize the supposititious nature and claim of the evil, and banish it with the truth.

Christian Scientists thus adopt the purely spiritual and Christly method of overcoming evil; and in proportion as the Christ is manifested in us we prove evil to be powerless. The desire of every Christian Scientist is to prove the words of our Master, "Nothing shall by any means hurt you.
