The purpose of this letter, which I ask you kindly to publish, is to correct the erroneous reference to Christian Science in a sermon published in the columns of the News, dated November 1, in which the following statement is reported to have been made: "We may try to rock conscience to sleep or dope it with such nonsense as Christian Science when the thought of sin gets to be too troublesome; but down in our hearts we know that we are sinners; we know that our hands have not been clean, nor our hearts pure; we know that we have lifted up our souls unto vanity." Such an utterance portrays a woeful lack of understanding of the teaching and practice of the Christian Science religion.

In establishing her church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, Mary Baker Eddy, the

Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, had for her sole purpose the commemoration and perpetuation of the teachings and healing ministry of Christ Jesus, who came into the world to bear witness unto the truth regarding God and man created in His image and likeness, therefore perfect, even as God is perfect. Thus Christian Science teaches that man is immortal, incorporeal, spiritual, the idea of the one infinite Father, expressing the very nature and character of God, therefore Godlike.
