A few years ago, when I first became interested in Christian Science, I had been under the constant care of a physician for about a year and a half and had undergone an operation, but without any improvement. I had consulted three doctors, two of them specialists. None of them seemed to know what was wrong, but the trouble was diagnosed as an ulcerated stomach. About this time, when one of the specialists thought it necessary for me to have another operation, a friend asked me to try Christian Science. She was living in my home and showed me how to study the Lesson-Sermon, as given in the Christian Science Quarterly. She also told me to eat whatever I wanted and not to be afraid, saying that it was not food that was causing the distress. I did as she told me to do, and seemed to get along better than when I was on a very strict diet, although I was not entirely free.
One Wednesday evening, a short time after I began this study, when on the way to church with this friend, I had a very acute attack of stomach trouble; but with her help, and by clinging to the thought that God is the only power, I was healed by the time we arrived at church. That was about ten years ago, and the healing has proved to be permanent.
Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for all the activities of The Mother Church, for the blessings of our Reading Rooms, and for our loving and faithful practitioners.
