It is about nineteen years since Christian Science came...

It is about nineteen years since Christian Science came into my life. At the age of eleven years I was in a very unhappy state of nervousness, following an attack of shingles. The doctors had no remedy to offer, so at length my mother suggested that we should both study "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, as she had heard of Christian Science while on a visit to England a year or two before. We were living in South Africa at the time. We began to read, and gradually the healing came; and about two years later we had the privilege of attending services and lectures and of meeting other Christian Scientists in London. Similar attacks of fear came while I was studying hard at boarding school and college, but were overcome in a very short while, the longest lasting about three weeks only.

Since that time Christian Science has been indeed "a very present help in trouble." It has proved, in times of sorrow, to be the Comforter promised by Christ Jesus. It has been a guide and support in time of great mental stress, as well as a physician in times of sickness.

My gratitude goes out to God for the faithful practitioners who are always ready to answer the call for help; for the continual inspiration and sense of fellowship that come through the literature and the services in all parts of the world; for the privilege of class instruction; and, above all, for the consecrated life of Mrs. Eddy, through whose loving efforts Christ's Christianity is again demonstrated on earth with "signs following."
