[Written for the Sentinel]

Watch

"Could ye not watch with me one hour?"
That sadly gentle plea
Still sounding down the ages comes,
Can ye not watch with me?

Can ye not watch and wait throughout
The hour before the dawn,
Till from before the glowing face
Of quenchless light is drawn

The misty veil of mortal sense,
And face to face ye see
That Truth which formed the universe?
Can ye not watch with me?
