I wish to express my hearty thanks to Christian Science,...
I wish to express my hearty thanks to Christian Science, through which I have received healing, peace, and joy. Before I came into Christian Science I had the most gloomy life in consequence of a shattered constitution. My health was failing day by day, and I had a strong feeling that I would soon collapse altogether. Most of my troubles were the result of the world war. During the Armenian massacres, in 1915, we were living in the interior of Asia Minor. As fugitives, we fled to Constantinople by way of Angora. The traveling, full of dangers and terrors, was done with horse and wagon. It took us seven days to cross a wild, mountainous country inhabited by hostile people. All the regions through which I passed in the company of my husband and our elder son, who was then but a tiny baby forty-five days old, were infested with brigands. Under divine protection, however, we reached our destination safely. This and other hard experiences, which came upon me later on, resulted in nervous debility. Day by day my condition grew worse, assuming a complicated phase. Neurasthenia, at times accompanied by neuralgia, heart trouble, partial paralysis, anaemia, and fainting, set in, and made me extremely weak and helpless. Everything within our reach had been done to overcome my difficulties, and I received much medical assistance, but all the treatments helped me not a bit.
When things were at the darkest point, I suddenly made up my mind to give up doctors and drugs, and turned to Christian Science for help. Day and night I prayed and studied the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I took this beneficial decision on the advice of a friend, to whom I am deeply indebted. I was brought up in a most religious Armenian Protestant family. I do not remember that a single day passed in which I did not fervently pray to God. But since studying Christian Science and attending the services and receiving the help of a kind practitioner, I know a much better way of praying to Him, and have a clearer understanding of Him. The idea that God is infinite good, Love, omnipotent and omniscient, and the thought that there is no evil and disease in His creation, have for over two years made me free from the bondage in which I suffered so long.
When, two years ago, all Greece was visited by the socalled epidemic of dengue, my two children and I were among those who were attacked, but Christian Science provided us with the necessary antidote to overcome the difficulty. In remembering this hard experience, I am thankful for the loving help of a kind practitioner. Now life is no more a burden to me, nor are my days sad and gloomy. All my previous false ideas about physical constitution have vanished like a shadow before the divine light, and now I feel happy, because I know that I live in God, in whom there is no fear, disease, or death. This is a wonderful revelation to me, and I am grateful to God, to Christ Jesus, and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, and also to all the friends who have helped me in Christian Science.
