The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (First Church).

Lecturer: James G. Rowell; introduced by Daniel Dyer, who said:—

Christian Scientists are sometimes criticized for refusing to concede authority or power to man-made material laws, the breaking of which is believed to deprive one of health, harmony, and peace. Yet there is Scriptural authority for this attitude. Paul, in his epistle to the Galatians, when enumerating the fruit of the Spirit in contradistinction to the works of the flesh, wrote, "The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law." And Mrs. Eddy on page 253 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," says, "God never requires obedience to a so-called material law, for no such law exists." Christian Scientists, to-day, are proving the truth of these statements.
