My mother had been interested in Christian Science for...
My mother had been interested in Christian Science for a number of years, and during that time I took keen delight in expressing my views on what I believed Christian Science to be; but these were far from being correct. However, error screams loudest just before its fall. Having been an inveterate smoker for several years, I felt that the habit would always be with me. One evening I said to my mother that I would go to church with her just once, if I did not have to give up smoking. She lovingly replied that I would not have to give up anything good. Her answer puzzled me at the time, but I have since learned that divine Love supplies all good. The following Sunday we went to church together. The subject of the Lesson-Sermon was, "Are Sin, Disease, and Death Real?" It was a wonderful experience for me, and since that time I have been an earnest student of Christian Science. Up to that time I had worn glasses for over ten years, being unable to see or read clearly without them. About three months after beginning the study of our textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, I left the house rather hurriedly one morning, taking the case of my glasses and my textbook with me. Seated in the train I opened the case to take out the glasses, but found it empty. I immediately began to realize the truth. Then, opening the textbook I commenced to read without my glasses. That was fourteen years ago, and it has not been necessary for me to use them since. This healing was accomplished through the study of our textbook alone. When the smoking habit left me I have no remembrance, but it disappeared as the truth about God and man's relationship to Him became apparent.
A few years after I began the study of Christian Science another beautiful healing took place, for which I wish to express my gratitude. I was supervising the unloading of a car at the plant where I am employed. The material was packed in containers weighing nearly six hundred pounds each, bound with heavy steel hoops. One of these containers was lying on its side at the car door near where I was standing. There was a shout of warning as another container fell from the second tier, landing on the first one head on in such a way that my knee was caught between two steel bands, lifting the kneecap out of place. Immediately I began to know the truth as revealed through the study of Christian Science. My men helped me to the ground, offering to take me to the company's dispensary. I asked to be left alone for a few minutes, as the pain was intense. After I had declared the truth for about ten minutes the kneecap snapped into place and I was able to walk, much to the surprise of the men. Two hours later all trace of lameness had disappeared, and the healing was complete.
It has been my privilege to experience many other beautiful healings during the years in which divine Love has been my only physician. Christian Science has met my every need, whether that need has been physical or mental, or a problem of supply; and for this I am sincerely grateful. While having many opportunities to serve our beloved Cause, I am most grateful for the privilege of teaching in a Christian Science Sunday School.
