[Written for the Sentinel]

Unity

I have one all-inclusive duty—one,
And only one: to testify of Thee.
My mission is to witness. What I see
My Father do, that must I likewise do;
I may not recreant be to that great cause,
From which I was brought forth.

The replica
Within the mirror is by virtue of
Reflection. It forever images
Its maker. So with me. Except my eyes
Be fixed on Thee forever, I am naught;
For I am not a thing apart from Thee,
But Thy reflection: I companion Thee.

Again, to what may I be likened?
To the warm sunbeam which no artifice
Can separate, imprison, or transmute,
Nor sever from its fountainhead of light,
But, in its source indissolubly fixed,
Reveals the substance, light, from whence it springs;
So can I never be divorced from Thee;
But ever must partake Thy nature, Lord.

Herein lies faith that blooms in perfect sight;
Herein lies hope to which fruition rounds.
